When the hospital wanted to put in a PICC line while Richard was in ICU, it sounded scary to me. I didn't know what a PICC line was, but I was told that it opened up in the area of the heart, and that sounds scary.
If you have these concerns as I did, I just want you to know that my experience with PICC lines were actually very positive. They didn't have to use IVs and were able to have constant access to immediate medication like using an IV. I don't remember how long his PICC line was in, but it was an extented length of time, months. We never had one issue with using it, ever.
